Life in Venice

I admit that I don't know that much about Venice until reading this book, and I'm enjoying the nuances of their lives and how the people function socially. Sort of like reading a Margaret Mead story of how cultures operate. If I ever go to Italy (Venice in particular) I now know to embellish my words and throw in a little drama now and then. I love how Mrs. L. not only describes things in a word (i.e. "TORTURE") but she repeats it three or four times for dramatic effect.

I'm really not sure of the plot/story line though - other than rebuilding the Fenice obviously - but are we looking at trying to find out who did it? I guess I just better keep reading.

Tough Italian words

Theres a glossary of terms and names at the end of the book, i found it very helpful once I found it

How Goes It So Far?

I'm not very far into the book, The Save Venice exec. dir. (Guthrie???) has decided to go on with the party and put a spin on it (Save Fenice) since the fire is still burning. I guess I would go on with a party too, given the geographic range.

I keep stumbling over the Italian words.

Critical Review List

Metacritic has a compilation of reviews about Berendt's City of Fallen Angels on their Web site.

Good Reading Group Web site

Here's a reading group guide site I ran across http://www.readinggroupguides.com/index.asp

Although they don't have our current read there, we may have some use for the site for another book we discuss.
